Touching tributes have been paid to Bay City Rollers hero Les McKeown following the Edinburgh-born frontman’s sudden passing at the age of 65. The Shang-a-Lang singer’s death was announced in a heartfelt statement by family members on social media on Thursday, prompting an outpouring of grief from the music community. McKeown, who replaced Gordon ‘Nobby’ Clark as lead singer of the 70’s sensations, shot to fame alongside bandmates Alan and Derek Longmuir, Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, going on to sell 120 million records worldwide thanks to hits including Bye Bye Baby. They also inspired a generation of musical talent to follow in their tartan-clad footsteps, with Wet Wet Wet bassist Graeme Clark leading the tributes to one of his heroes. A statement posted by McKeown's family on Facebook read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband and father Leslie Richard McKeown. Leslie died suddenly at home on Tuesday 20 April 2021. "We are currently making arrangements for his funeral and ask for privacy after the shock of our profound loss. Thank you. Keiko and Jubei McKeown." What was Les McKeown's cause of death? Les died on April 20, 2021 but it is not known how the beloved Scot died.
